The Yorktown Lions are part of Lions Clubs International, the world's largest service organization, with over 1.3 million members in 205 countries.

Lions were founded in 1917 by Chicago business man Melvin Jones, who advanced the idea that individuals should join together to help others, rather than seeking to advance their own personal interests.

The Yorktown Lions Club was founded in 1960, and is dedicated to service, with emphasis on helping the vision impaired, youth, and community service.

We meet twice a month, from September through June, at the Yorktown Firehouse on Commerce Street.  For information about membership, or a need in the community, please email us at yorktownlionsclub@gmail.com.

At the 1925 International Convention, Helen Keller challenged the Lions to be "knights of the blind, in the crusade against darkness."

Lions took up that challenge, and have worked to help the vision impaired, supported youth, and met needs in their local communities.
